When Should I Buy My Wedding Dress?

When Should I Buy My Wedding Dress?

Jul 23, 2021

Planning a wedding is a lot of work—between organizing your venue, catering, entertainment, transportation, flowers, and more, you have your hands full. It’s important to do everything on time so that you have no worries on your actual wedding day. Often, we find brides asking us when they should start shopping for their wedding dress, so we’re sharing our breakdown on when to buy your dress on the blog.

After You Get Engaged

After you’ve said “yes” (by the way—congratulations!), you’ll want to set your date and venue before you start thinking about your dress. We recommend choosing your date and venue before finding your dress so you can picture yourself on your wedding day easier. You’ll have an idea of what the weather will be like, and will know what type of venue you’ll be in so you can choose a dress that fits the venue’s aesthetic and your unique wedding vision.

One Year Out

Once you’ve set your venue and date, book your appointment to start shopping as soon as possible. This sounds like a lot of time, but it’s because you will likely wait around 8 months for your wedding dress to arrive after you order it. Shopping for your wedding dress isn’t like a normal retail experience: you’re ordering a high-end garment specifically made for you, so the designer will need to source the materials, sew each piece, and attach any embellishments needed on the dress. This process doesn’t happen overnight!

2 Months Out

Once your dress arrives, you’ll need to get alterations. This is an important step, as it ensures your dress fits perfectly on your wedding day. From getting a strap tightened to a simple hemming, you’ll make minor adjustments to the gown so it’s just right. The first fitting will be 6-8 weeks out from the wedding, then you’ll come back at 4 weeks and 2 weeks for minor adjustments before finally taking the gown home after a full steam and press, ensuring your gown is pristine!

Once you’ve finished fittings, the only thing left to do is to wear your gown! If you’re still looking for the right dress, book your appointment at Lastrina Girls.
